Indian Govt Mandates AC-fitted Truck Cabins From October 2025

The Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a new notification requiring all trucks manufactured after October 2025 to have an air-conditioned cab for the driver. The notification will apply to N2 and N3 category trucks.

The notification from the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) reads (quoted from The Times of India): “Vehicles manufactured on or after October 1, 2025 shall be equipped with an air-conditioning system for the cab of N2 and N3 category vehicles”.

What are N2 and N3 category vehicles?

N2 category: refers to motor vehicles used for transporting goods and having a gross vehicle weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 12 tonnes.

N3 category: refers to motor vehicles used for transporting goods and having a gross vehicle weight exceeding 12 tonnes.
